Sarasota County staff is encouraging property owners — both year-round and seasonal — to sign up for the CodeRED alert notification system.

“CodeRED allows residents to receive calls, email alerts or text messages” about events that could impact their neighborhoods and help protect their families or property, a news release notes. Among the alerts are those related to water or sewer interruptions, missing persons, major traffic detours and severe weather warnings, the release adds.

“The CodeRED Weather Warning, which is an opt-in only service, will automatically notify those registered of tornado, flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings” just minutes after the National Weather Service has issued an alert, the release points out.

Individuals and business owners with a physical address in Sarasota County may sign up for CodeRED, the release adds. To register, visit scgov.net/codered and enter your first and last name, your physical address and primary phone numbers.

For more information, call the county Contact Center at 941-861-5000 and ask about CodeRED registration.
