With Sarasota County staff proposing changes to the level of service for mowing in residential areas within the unincorporated areas of the county, staff will host a third public workshop at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Nokomis Community Center.

County contracts with landscaping services require periodic mowing of the rights of way along residential roadways, a news release explains. “On Aug. 24, the Sarasota County Commission will be considering a change that would transfer the responsibility to adjacent property owners, similar to existing practices within the cities of Sarasota, Venice and North Port,” the release adds. “The county will save more than $500,000 a year if the change is adopted,” the release notes.

An updated list of affected roads may be found at www.scgov.net/PublicWorks, which incorporates additional areas south of Blackburn Point Road.

County staff previously held public workshops at the Fruitville Public Library and the Venice Community Center, the release points out. The Nokomis Community Center — the site of the third session — is located at 234 Nippino Trail E. in Nokomis.
