Sarasota Police Department detectives are asking the public for help as they continue their investigation into the apparent drowning of a female on Friday, Aug. 10, at the 10th Street Boat Ramp at Centennial Park, Genevieve Judge, the department’s communications coordinator, announced on Aug. 15.

Detectives are asking people who were in the area between 1 and 3 p.m. on Aug. 10 to call them with any information, as persons at the boat ramp might have witnessed something that could assist in the investigation, Judge reported in a news release. The boat ramp is located at 1059 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 10.

Sarasota Police Detective Maria Llovio may be contacted at 941-364-7336, Judge added.

The 12th District Medical Examiner’s Officer will rule on the exact cause of death, Judge pointed out last week.

Initially, she noted, officers were dispatched to the scene after the department received a report about a male in the water, Judge wrote in an update last week. When officers arrived, they found the victim was deceased, and the victim proved to be a female.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and Criminalistics also then responded to the scene. They closed the boat ramp during the investigation.
