Donations to the Mayors’ Feed The Hungry program are down this year, supporters have announced. The organization is asking for assistance this holiday season.

The Mayors’ Feed The Hungry program relies on donations from the public to provide $10 Publix gift cards to those in need, Sarasota City Manager Tom Barwin pointed out in his Dec. 7 newsletter. Last year, the program gave away cards adding up to $100,000 for Thanksgiving and $60,000 for the holiday season in the Sarasota-Manatee area, he noted.

“This year the need is just as great and donations have been significantly lower,” Barwin wrote.

Donations may be made online at www.MayorsFeedTheHungry.org.

“On behalf of the City of Sarasota, Mayor Liz Alpert greatly appreciates everyone’s generous donations this holiday season to help the less fortunate in Sarasota and Manatee Counties,” Barwin added.
