On Sunday, Oct. 1, the State of Florida launched a new online voter registration website for state residents who would like to register to vote online or who are already registered but need to update their records, Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner has announced.

Florida residents who already have state-issued driver’s licenses or ID cards may go to www.RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov to complete and transmit a paperless application electronically from their computers, tablets or smart phones, Turner pointed out in a news release.

An applicant will be required to provide his or her full name, date of birth, residence address, full Florida driver’s license or Florida ID card number and date of issue, the last four digits of the person’s Social Security number and political party affiliation, Turner added in the release. An applicant may choose a party from a list of accredited parties in the state or choose “No Party Affiliation,” the release says.

The information provided will be validated electronically through its comparison to the information provided to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles at the time the applicant requested a Florida driver’s license or ID card, the release explains. “The signature already on record with DMV becomes the signature on the voter registration record,” Turner said.

Alternatively, an applicant may prefill a voter registration application form online and then print, sign and deliver a paper application to the county Supervisor of Elections Office, the release continues.

Turner said that if valid, the new registration will be added to the state’s voter registration database and a voter information card will be sent to the applicant. He noted in the release that paper voter registration application forms are still available for anyone, including those who cannot — for whatever reason —register online.

“In addition to offering voters a convenient, secure, and easy-to-use voter registration option, he added that RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is accessible to persons with disabilities and compatible with mobile devices,” the release says.
