Glamarier Carter, the public transit manager of Collier County, has been named the new general manager of Sarasota County Area Transit, Sarasota County Government has announced.

She will begin work Monday, Aug. 27, a news release says.

Carter has more than 15 years of experience in both the private and public sectors, the release points out. She has served as in her Collier County position since May 2010. In her nearly 11 years with that county, she also has held the positions of transportation planner and senior transportation operations analyst, the news release adds.

“We are fortunate to have Ms. Carter join the team and bring her expertise in transit management and operations to SCAT,” said Planning and Development Services Director Robert R. Lewis in the release.” Her wide range of experience includes federal and state grant management, strategic planning, developing and monitoring performance measures, and logistics and coordination of ground and public transportation.”

Carter has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Puerto Rico. Her annual salary will be $100,006, the release says.

Former SCAT Manager Anthony Beckford resigned in early April. Lewis told The Sarasota News Leader shortly afterward that he “had been discussing with Mr. Beckford some improvements he needed to make in his performance. We had very clear conversations about that.”
