Staff members of Sarasota County’s Hazardous Waste Division and the City of Sarasota will host a household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at Payne Park in downtown Sarasota, county staff has announced.

The park is located at 2010 Adams Lane. Entry to it should be made from the parking lot off East Avenue, opposite the Florida Department of Health-Sarasota County, a news release notes.

“The event is only for Sarasota County and City of Sarasota residents,” the release points out. “Proof of residency may be requested before any waste is accepted,” it adds.

Further, the release continues, Sarasota County staff “may limit the amount of waste collected. No commercial or organizational waste will be accepted.”

Examples of the items that will be accepted are aerosols, motor oil, paint, pool chemicals, propane cylinders and electronics, excluding TVs. Items that will not accepted are fireworks, fertilizers, ammunition, medications, needles or syringes, and tires, the release adds.

More information about the types of items that will and will not be accepted is available at scgov.net/solidwaste.
