Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is reminding residents who want to vote in the Aug. 28 primary that Monday, July 30, is the last day to register to be eligible to vote in that election.

Turner recommends that voters confirm before the July 30 deadline that they are registered to vote and that their voter registration information is current, a news release points out. A voter may check his or her voter eligibility at SarasotaVotes.com. “Just click on ‘Voter Information’ in the main menu and then click on ‘Voter Lookup’ and follow the easy instructions,” the release says.

New voter registration applications and requests for party changes must be completed, signed and returned in person or postmarked by the July 30 deadline, Turner noted in the release. An application also may be submitted online at RegistertoVoteFlorida.gov or through any driver license or tax collector’s office that issues Florida driver licenses or Florida ID cards, the release adds.

Any voter who has moved or changed his or her name — or anyone who needs to update a signature since the last election — also may complete a voter registration application for those records adjustments, the release explains.

Signature updates must be received by the elections office prior to the start of the canvass of vote-by-mail ballots, which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 8:30 a.m., the release points out. Address and name changes may be made at any time prior to voting.
Applications are available at all three elections offices — in Sarasota, Venice and North Port; at public libraries; military recruitment offices; and public assistance offices, the release says. They also may be downloaded at SarasotaVotes.com.

For more information or assistance, voters may call the Supervisor of Elections office at 861-8619 or visit the website.
