“As the Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation (SAHP) enters a new phase of growth, the organization is sharpening its strategic direction and strengthening its internal structure,” the Alliance has announced.

“A $7,500 Capacity Building Grant from the Edward K. Roberts Emerging Needs Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County will support an expanded planning effort designed to enhance long-term sustainability and guide SAHP’s next chapter,” a news release notes.

SAHP Managing Director Erin DiFazio says the grant arrived at a pivotal moment, the release continues.

“This support allows us to build the internal foundation we need for the next phase of SAHP’s development,” she pointed out. “Updating our strategic plan and strengthening our operations will help us serve the community more effectively while preparing future leadership.”

DiFazio noted that “the benefits extend well beyond internal processes,” the release adds.

“Through this work, we’ll establish a framework for lasting organizational growth and create new opportunities for Sarasota County to protect and celebrate its historic places,” DiFazio explained. “It will also help us highlight the economic and environmental value of preservation and deepen our collaboration with the community,” she said.

“The consulting effort includes updating and expanding SAHP’s strategic plan to incorporate clear goals, succession planning, and the systems needed to support a volunteer-led board,” the release continues. It also will “feature interviews, assessments, and facilitated conversations with staff, board members, stakeholders, and preservation partners to ensure the plan is both community-informed and mission-aligned,” the release notes.

“Strengthening our organizational and financial infrastructure is essential,” DiFazio added in the release. “With the Community Foundation’s support, we can build a structure that will carry SAHP —and Sarasota’s preservation efforts — forward for decades.”
