Garbage collection schedule shifts announced
Sarasota County government offices, including libraries, Sarasota County Historical Resources and recreation centers, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday, the county has announced.
Residents who live in unincorporated areas of the county will not have yard waste, recyclables or garbage collected on Thanksgiving Day, a news release points out.
For residents whose regular collection day is Thursday, yard waste, recyclables and garbage will be collected Friday, Nov. 27, the release says. For residents whose regular collection day is Friday, yard waste, recyclables and garbage will be collected Saturday, Nov. 28. Because collection times vary, the release adds, residents should place refuse materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup.
Libraries will be open Saturday, Nov. 28, and other county offices will reopen Monday, Nov. 30, the news release continues.
No Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service will be provided on Thanksgiving Day; however, full service will resume on Friday, Nov. 27, the release notes. The SCAT administrative office and the Downtown Transfer Station customer service window will be closed Thursday and Friday, the release continues.
Payne Park will be closed on Thanksgiving, but it will be open during its regular hours — 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. — on Friday. Arlington Park and the Knight Trail Park gun range will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Sarasota County’s chemical collection centers at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice — along with the ReUzIt Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road — will be closed Thursday and Friday, the release says.
The Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed Thursday but open on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the release notes. All three collection centers will be open Saturday, Nov. 28.
The Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Sarasota, will be closed Thursday, but it will be open on Friday. The landfill administrative offices will be closed Nov. 26 and 27.
