Event to be held on Saturday, Oct. 29
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will host a job fair on Oct. 29 to recruit communications operators for the Emergency Operations Bureau, the office has announced.
The event will be held the last Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sarasota County Emergency Operations Center, located at 6050 Porter Way, off Cattlemen Road in Sarasota, a news release says.
Each interested candidate must bring a completed application and plan on spending two hours in the Public Safety Communications Center (PSC), the release adds. This streamlined process will allow each qualified applicant to spend an observation period shadowing a call taker, followed by an immediate in-person interview, the release points out.
The following qualifications must be met by all applicants:
- Must have a high school diploma or must have passed the G.E.D. (A person with fewer than 60 college credits will have to take a TABE test).
- Must be in compliance with Sheriff’s Office drug, tobacco and tattoo policy.
- Must pass oral board interview.
- Must submit to a complete background investigation, polygraph and psychological evaluation and be found to be of good moral character.
The starting salary is $31,836; pay can go up to $37,762 with acceptable prior experience, the release notes. “Operators are offered an additional $1,200 per year for night shift differential,” the release says.
