The City of Sarasota will host three in-person community stakeholder meetings regarding the potential extension of The Legacy Trail to the Bobby Jones Golf Club, the city has announced.

Those sessions will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sunshine Post 3233, which stands at 124 S Tuttle Ave. in Sarasota. Each will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates, a news release says:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 12.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 13.
  • Thursday, Dec. 14.

A preliminary project development and environment (PD&E) study will evaluate two proposed alignments for the connector from The Legacy Trail to the golf club and Nature Park, the release adds.

The first alignment involves expanding the sidewalk on the east side of Beneva Road from The Legacy Trail north to the intersection of Beneva Road and Fruitville Road, the release points out. The second alignment would be located along the city-owned right of way through the Eastwood Neighborhood east of Beneva Road, the release notes. A no-build alternative — without a trail connection from The Legacy Trail to Bobby Jones Golf Club and Nature Park — also will be evaluated, the release says.

The study will involve engineering evaluations, environmental analysis and public participation, the release points out.
