Registration fees lower through Oct. 31
The third annual Florida Turkey Trot at Nathan Benderson Park (NBP) will be both an in-person run/walk and a virtual event, the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates (SANCA) has announced.
“In its second year, this new Thanksgiving-morning tradition brought about 4,000 participants to the park for the third event of the Fit2Run/NBP Holiday Challenge,” a news release notes. The event this year will feature staggered starts both on Thanksgiving morning and the afternoon before, as well as a virtual option for those who would prefer that, the release adds.
The staggered starts for the on-site run/walk “will ensure social distancing and runner safety,” the release points out. Runners will schedule their start times in blocks between 4 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25; and between 7 and 10 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, the release continues. “Participants are encouraged to register early and secure their preferred start time, since the number of participants per time block is capped.”
To register, visit this website. Those age 18 and younger can register for $20, the website says. Through Oct. 31, the fee for either the 5K race or the virtual 5K is $35 for adults. That will go up to $40 on Nov. 1 and then $45 the day of the event, the website notes.
Virtual run/walk participants may choose their own times and places and then report their finish times afterward, the release adds.
All participants will receive a race shirt, a runner’s face covering and a finisher medal, the release points out.
This will be the third event in the annual NBP/Fit2Run Holiday Challenge, which kicked off with the St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Leprechaun 5K and included the Fireworks On The Lake 4-Miler on July 3. Both of those events were virtual this year.
