City and County of Sarasota to close facilities in observance of July 4 holiday

No collections of garbage, recyclables or yard waste to take place in city or county on July 4

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day, the local governments have announced.

No residential garbage, recycling or yard waste will be collected that day, news releases point out. In both the city, and the unincorporated areas of the county, the Thursday pickups will take place on Friday, July 5, and the Friday pickups will take place on Saturday, July 6, the news releases note.

In the city, Parks and Recreation facilities and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Box Office will be closed on July 4, the city news release points out.

The Bay Runner trolley will operate on its regular schedule, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a modified route, the city release says. “The Palm Avenue stop will be temporarily suspended from noon to 10 p.m.,” it adds.

The county release notes that the Breeze 77 Siesta Islander, (formerly known as the Siesta Key trolley), the Breeze 76 Flyer and OnDemand services will operate with normal hours.

In regard to county facilities, the following will be closed on Thursday, July 4, that release says:

  • All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources offices and facilities.
  • Sarasota County University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences Extension and Sustainability offices (UF/IFAS).
  • Sarasota County Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
  • Breeze regular bus and Plus services.
  • Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources recreation facilities and the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
  • The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections offices.
  • All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Centers.

Further, the county release notes,Resilient SRQ Housing Recovery case managers will be unavailable.”

The following facilities will be closed both on July 4 and July 5, county staff says:

  • The Florida Department of Health-Sarasota County.
  • The Sarasota County Tax Collector offices.
  • The Office of the Sarasota County Property Appraiser.
  • The offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller.

The county release does point out, “The Central County Landfill will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, because of the holiday collection schedule; however, the Construction and Demolition (C&D) area will close at 2 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
