Event’s theme is Celebration of a Free & Fair Election
The Sister Cities Association of Sarasota (SCAS) and the Social Justice Alliance of the Florida SunCoast (SJAFSC) are inviting the public to the second Sarasota Peace & Understanding Summit, which will be held on Thursday, July 30, at Selby Public Library in Sarasota.
The event will feature a panel discussion with the theme Celebration of a Free & Fair Election, a news release notes. That will provide participants “an opportunity to listen, reflect and engage as our panelists share their perspectives on keeping elections transparent and trusted,” the release explains. “Panelists will take questions from the audience and offer practical ways we can all strengthen civic dialogue in our community,” the release adds.
The panelists will be as follows:
- Ron Turner, Sarasota County supervisor of elections.
- Vila Johnson, co-president of the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County.
- Miles Toder, president of SCAS and a retired diplomat.
- Bill Woodson, founder and board chair of Conversations Across the Aisle.
The panel will be moderated by Wendy Lerner, vice president of SCAS for arts and culture.
The co-sponsor of the event is the Social Justice Alliance of the Florida SunCoast (SJAFSC).
The summit will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m., the release says. It will be held in the Jack Geldbart Auditorium in Selby Library, which stands at 1331 First St. in downtown Sarasota, the release notes.
