Art Center Sarasota announces new exhibitions, featuring works by Park and Frorup, plus juried show and group exhibit, ‘Rooted in Community’

Opening reception scheduled for March 5

Art Center Sarasota, which is celebrating its centennial year, has announced its next exhibitions, which will be on display from March 5 through April 18.

They are as follows:

  • Herion Park: UnBroken — “This exhibition will showcase sculptural family portraits composed of textiles, re-purposed objects, life-cast anatomical forms and organic materials, highlighting the love-bond Park and her sisters shared with her mother.” The Artist Talk is set for April 9.
  • Rooted in Community — “A dynamic group exhibition that honors and highlights the rich contributions of artists from Sarasota’s historically Black Newtown neighborhood. The Artist Talk will be held on March 26
  • Kendra Frorup: At Home Anywhere — This is “a body of work rooted in personal experience, cultural memory and adaptability.” The Artist Talk is scheduled for April 3.
  • Juried Show: Art of the Spectacle — The exhibit will “explore the intersection of fashion, circus and stagecraft, capturing the drama, elegance and eccentricity of the performing arts.”
    The Juror’s Critique with Maria Schaedler-Luera is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, the release adds.

The opening reception for all exhibits will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Art Center is located at 707 N. Tamiami Trail in downtown Sarasota.
