Bayfront Park playground closed in Sarasota with work underway on new construction

Completion of project expected this fall

The Allen Playground in the City of Sarasota’s downtown Bayfront Park has been closed for construction to begin on an all-new playground and splash pad combination, the city has announced.

The plans include a shipwreck-themed playground with climbing features, shade structures and a new splash pad built from the ground up,” the report says. “The entire play area will be graded to create a seamless connection, with shaded seating between the playground and splash pad for parents/guardians,” the city report adds. “The whimsical animal statues, longtime fixtures at the old splash pad and part of the City’s extensive Public Art collection, will be incorporated into the play area landscaping,” the report notes.

Construction is expected to be completed late this fall, the report adds.

In the meantime, city staff is encouraging families to check out the city’s other popular playgrounds, including the Circus Park at Payne Park, which stands at 2010 Adams Lane in Sarasota.
