The Beach University series, hosted by the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department, will begin anew on March 3 at the Siesta Public Beach main pavilion, county staff has announced.

“In partnership with the Siesta Beach Ambassador volunteer program, this free educational series invites community members and visitors to learn about coastal environments in one-hour sessions,” a news release explains.

The following is the 2022 schedule:

  • March 3: History of the Key and Surrounding Areas.
  • March 10: Florida Fossils.
  • March 17: Impacts of Human Behaviors on the Environment.
  • March 24: Marvelous Mangroves.
  • March 31: Share the Shore: Helping the Siesta Beach Nesting Birds.

Beach University sessions will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Thursday in March, the release notes. Siesta Public Beach is located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key.

“Join in virtually by tuning into @SRQCountyPlay on Facebook,” the release adds.

In-person attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, as seating is limited. No registration is required, the release points out.
