Body of man found floating offshore of Bayfront Park in City of Sarasota

Deceased identified as 31-year-old Daniel Flowers, with Police Department investigation continuing

The Sarasota Police Department is conducting an investigation after the body of an adult man was found near 5 Bayfront Drive in Sarasota just after 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 8, the agency has reported.

On Sept. 13, responding to a Sarasota News Leader request for an update, the department’s public information officer, Genevieve Judge, reported that the deceased had been identified as Daniel D. Flowers, a white male who turned 31 on July 7.

“This is an isolated incident,” the original news release stressed, adding that officers had seen no indication of a threat to the public.

Judge confirmed on Sept. 13 that that view had not changed: “[T]here continues to be no indication of the manner of death being foul play,” she wrote.

The person who called 911 Dispatch said the man’s body was floating in the area of 5 Bayfront Drive, the original news release explained. “When officers arrived, the man was pronounced dead,” the release said.

The address of 5 Bayfront Drive is located at the City of Sarasota’s Bayfront Park, which overlooks a mooring field for sailboats and Sarasota Bay. The park is adjacent to the Marina Jack complex.

“The cause of death will be determined by the District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office,” the release added.

A News Leader search of the records of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller found no results — either in the criminal or civil files — regarding a Daniel Flowers.
