County and City of Sarasota facilities to be closed in observance of Presidents Day on Feb. 16

Garbage, recycling and yard waste collections to remain on normal schedule

Most Sarasota County and City of Sarasota government offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16, to mark the national observance of Presidents Day, the staffs have announced.

Curbside collection services for trash, recycling and yard waste for residents in unincorporated Sarasota County and in the city will not be affected by the holiday, county and city news releases point out.

County closings on Monday, Feb. 16

  • The Libraries and Historical Resources Department’s branches and office.
  • Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
  • The University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Office in Sarasota County.
  • Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources’ recreation centers, including the Englewood Sports Complex and the Knight Trail Park Pistol and Rifle Range.
  • The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop standing at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota, and the administrative office located at the Central County Landfill, which stands at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be closed. The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice remains closed indefinitely because of the impacts from Hurricane Ian.
  • The Public Utilities Department’s cashier windows and customer service offices within the Sarasota County Operations Center, which stands at 1001 Sarasota Center Blvd. in Sarasota, and within the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, located at 4000 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice, will be closed.
  • The offices of the Sarasota County Tax Collector.
  • The Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s Office.
  • The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections offices.
  • The offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller. Services can be accessed online at SarasotaClerk.com.
  • The facilities of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.

County services operating at normal hours on Feb. 16 

  • Breeze Transit routes, along with the OnDemand and Plus services.
  • Disposal operations at the Central County Landfill, which stands at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Citizens’ Convenience Center, located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be open during their regular hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.

City facilities’ schedules

The City Commission meeting that would have been scheduled for Monday will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Commission Chambers within City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.
