Vessel that struck pontoon boat left scene of incident, Sheriff’s Office reports

Late in the afternoon of Friday, March 28, a child suffered minor injuries after another boat collided with a pontoon boat in the Intracoastal Waterway off Stickney Point Road on Siesta Key, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has reported.
No one ended up in the water, the report said.
The pontoon boat was docked at the facilities of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key when Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to a 911 call, the report noted.
The address for CB’s in the report was 1265 Old Stickney Point Road, though the business fronts on Stickney Point Road just west of the Stickney Point Road bridge.
Just after 4 p.m. on March 28, the report said, a person who called 911 advised the dispatcher that the pontoon boat was in distress following the collision.
At 4:10 p.m., a crew from Fire Station 13 on Siesta Key reached the patient and the child’s mother, the report added. The Fire Station members had received the alarm at 4:02 p.m., a companion Sarasota County Fire Department report noted.

The other vessel, which was described as a 24-foot Carolina Skiff, left the area after the collision, the Sheriff’s Office report said. About six people were on that vessel, that report indicated.
The search for the powerboat was completed unsuccessfully just after 6 p.m., the report said.
When Sheriff’s Office personnel initially contacted the Coast Guard, that agency advised that it would take a crew 40 minutes to reach the scene, if the crew were needed. Ultimately, the report continued, someone with the Sheriff’s Office let the Coast Guard know that none of its personnel was needed.
No other details about the collision were provided in the Sheriff’s Office report or the companion report filed with the Sarasota County Fire Department.
