Garbage, recycling and yard waste collections to remain on normal schedule

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the local governments have announced.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste collections will not be affected, news releases point out.
Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open during its regular hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The regular City Commission meeting, usually held on Mondays, will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Commission Chambers within City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota, city staff is reminding the public.

Sarasota County Government staff released the following details about closures and facilities that will remain open on Jan. 19:
Closed on Monday, Jan. 19
- Libraries and Historical Resources Department branches and office.
- Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
- The office of the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Sustainability Program in Sarasota County.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department recreation centers, including the Englewood Sports Complex and the Knight Trail Park Pistol and Rifle Range.
- The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop standing at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, along with the administrative office of the Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Venice. The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center, standing at 250 S. Jackson Road, remains closed indefinitely because of damage from Hurricane Ian.
- Offices of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.
- Offices of the Sarasota County Tax Collector.
- The Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s Office.
- Offices of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.
- Offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller. Services may be accessed online at www.SarasotaClerk.com.
Operating at normal hours on Monday, Jan. 19
- Breeze Transit routes, OnDemand, and Plus services.
- Disposal operations at the Central County Landfill, which stands at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Citizens’ Convenience Center, which is located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis. The hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
