
City of Sarasota and Sarasota County administrative offices and facilities will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26, in observance of Christmas, the local governments have announced.
In the city, they also will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day, city staff notes.
In the county, the offices and services also will be closed on Jan. 2, a county news release says.
No garbage, recycling or yard waste pickups will be conducted on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day in either the city or the unincorporated areas of the county, the news releases point out.
For both city and county customers, collections for both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day will occur the following day, as noted below:
- Thursday, Dec. 25 —Pickups will occur on Friday, Dec. 26.
- Friday, Dec. 26 —Pickups will occur on Saturday, Dec. 27.
- Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026 — Pickups will occur on Friday, Jan. 2
- Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 —Pickup will occur on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 26, and Jan. 1.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open Dec. 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34thSt., will be open Dec. 24 from 6 to 10 a.m. and closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, willbe open Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Dec. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

New Year’s Eve
The City of Sarasota news release also notes that the public is invited to attend a city “co-sponsored New Year’s Eve celebration beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, in downtown Sarasota, including games, carnival activities, live entertainment, and a wide range of food and drink options.”
The release adds, “This highly anticipated celebration will culminate in the iconic downtown Sarasota pineapple drop at midnight.”
Additionally, it says, “A New Year’s Eve fireworks display will be held over the Sarasota bayfront from 11:45 p.m. to just after midnight. Click here to learn more.”
The county holiday changes
Along with most Sarasota County Government offices and services, the offices of Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller Karen Rushing, Property Appraiser Bill Furst and Tax Collector Mike Moran, plus the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Sustainability county offices, will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 and Jan. 1 through Jan. 2, 2026, the county release points out.

Transit Schedule
- Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 — Transit Administration and ticket outlets will be closed. Breeze routes (with the exception of the 77 Siesta Islander on Siesta Key) and Breeze Plus will operate at their regular hours. The 77 Siesta Islander and Breeze OnDemand will operate on the modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Christmas Day, Dec. 25 — Transit Administration and ticket outlets will be closed. Breeze routes (with the exception of the 77 Siesta Islander) and Breeze Plus will be closed. The 77 Siesta Islander will operate during its regular hours. Breeze OnDemand will operate at the modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Dec. 26 — Transit Administration and ticket outlets will be closed. However, all Breeze services will operate with regular hours.
- New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31 — The 77 Siesta Islander and Breeze OnDemand will operate with extended hours — until 1 a.m.
- New Year’s Day, Jan. 1 — Transit administration and ticket outlets will be closed. Breeze routes (with the exception of the 77 Siesta Islander) and Breeze Plus will be closed. The 77 Siesta Islander and Breeze OnDemand will operate with modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Libraries and Historical Resources:
All locations will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1-2, 2026.
County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources:
Recreation centers will be closed Dec. 24-26, and Jan. 1-2, 2026.
The Knight Trail Park Pistol and Rifle Range will be closed Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31 through Jan. 1, 2026. The facility will resume operations on Saturday, Dec. 27, and Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, and it will remain open through the weekend at normal operating hours.
Solid Waste Department facilities
All solid waste facilities and administrative offices, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Center ,will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop standing at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, along with the Central County Landfill administrative office located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 26 and Jan. 1 and Jan 2.
The Central County Landfill will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, and on Jan. 3, but the Construction and Debris area will close at 1:30 p.m. on those days.
