City and County of Sarasota to observe Presidents Day

Waste collection schedule will not be affected

City and County of Sarasota administration offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 18, in recognition of the Presidents Day holiday, the local governments have announced.

Waste collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday, city and county staff members have emphasized in news releases.

Hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreation and cultural facilities will vary, as follows:

The regular City Commission meeting will be held a day later than usual, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, which is located at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.

County staff has announced that the following will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18:

  • Sarasota County Government offices.
  • The Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) administrative office and downtown transfer station customer service window.
  • The Sarasota County Chemical Collection Center located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice.
  • Libraries and Historical Resources Department facilities.
  • Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
  • Recreation centers.
  • Administrative office at the Chemical Collection Center located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road.
  • Veterans Services.

County facilities operating on normal hours on Monday, Feb. 18 follow

  • The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, “offering its full range of medical and public health services,” the county news release says.
  • Regular bus service and the Siesta Key Breeze open-air trolley.
  • The Sarasota County’s Chemical Collection Center located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and the Citizens’ Convenience Center located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis.
