City of Sarasota facilities and Sarasota County government offices to observe Christmas, New Year’s

City and County of Sarasota administration offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas and on Tuesday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, the respective staffs have announced.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County also will be closed on Dec. 31.

Waste collection schedules will be affected by the holidays, city and county news releases point out. No garbage, recycling and yard waste pickups will be conducted on Christmas Day (Tuesday, Dec. 25) or New Year’s Day (Tuesday, Jan. 1), though collections will be made the following days.

In the city, that news release says, “All other scheduled pickups, including on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, will be unaffected.”

For county residents, curbside collection services for trash, recycling and yard waste will be conducted on Monday, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31.

All remaining county collections after Dec. 25 and after Jan. 1 will be delayed by one day:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 26, and Jan. 2 — collections for Tuesday customers.
  • Thursday, Dec. 27, and Jan. 3 — collections for Wednesday customers.
  • Friday, Dec. 28, and Jan. 4 — collections for Thursday customers.
  • Saturday, Dec. 29, and Jan. 5 — collections for Friday customers.

Collection times vary, the county news release points out, “so residents should place materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup.”

In the city of Sarasota, hours of operation at recreation and cultural facilities will vary:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Center, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It will have limited hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., on New Year’s Eve.
  • Bobby Jones Golf Club, located at 1000 Circus Blvd., is open 365 days a year. The city-owned course will host the 11th Annual “Reindeer Games” on Christmas Day with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on the British Course. The American and Gillespie Executive courses will be open for 18-hole play from 6:30 to 9 a.m., with nine-hole play from 6:30 to 11 a.m. on Christmas Day. The Golf Shop will be open the following holiday hours: 6:30 to 11 a.m. on Christmas Day; and 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
  • Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be open for regular hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (10 a.m.to 4:45 p.m.), but it will beclosed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It will be open for limited hours, 7:30 a.m. to noon, on New Year’s Eve.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
  • Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will have its box office open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve; the box office will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will suspend regular bus services on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2019. The SCAT administrative office and downtown transfer station customer service window will be closed Dec. 24-25, as well as Jan.1, the county release points out.

Nonetheless, the Siesta Key Breeze open-air trolley will operate on a normal schedule, the release notes.

Regular bus service will operate on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizen’s Convenience Center and both of the chemical collection centers, will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2019.

Sarasota County’s chemical collection centers, located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road and 250 S. Jackson Road, along with the Re-Uz-It Shop located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan.1, 2019, the county news release points out.

The Citizens’ Convenience Center located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan.1, 2019.

The landfill will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, and on Jan. 5, 2019, because of the holiday collection schedule, the release adds.

Libraries will be closed Dec. 24-25 and on Jan. 1, 2019, the release notes, and all county libraries will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.

TheKnight Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed on Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2019.

Recreation centers will be closed on Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2019.
