The Sarasota County Library System will shut down its computer catalog system on Tuesday, Aug. 28, to allow for maintenance of the software used to keep track of the more than 1 million items circulated annually, the county has announced.

Library and Information Technology staff members will perform the maintenance during the day and are hopeful the system will be back online after Tuesday, a county news release says. During the undertaking, the public catalog, as well as the ability to place holds and renew items, will be unavailable.

“We prefer to avoid disruptions in service by scheduling maintenance during non-operating hours, but that is not possible this time due to the need for assistance from the vendor,” said Melisse Hypponen, Sarasota County Library information technology specialist, in the news release. “The maintenance will improve efficiency and enable libraries to offer new features in the future.”

Library customers must have their library cards with them to check out materials while the system is offline.
