Sarasota County residents were quickly embracing faster, more flexible ways to complete everyday transactions, following the Sarasota County Tax Collector’s Office rollout of a new digital payment system, Tax Collector Mike Moran has announced.

Powered by PaymentExpress across in-office services and online tax payments, the system debuted the week of April 20, a news release says.

“On its first day live (April 21),” the release adds, “the system processed nearly 900 transactions, including close to 600 in-office payments — 74% of which were made via tap-to-pay, with an additional 8.3% made via mobile pay, underscoring strong early adoption of the new payment options.”

The release points out that the system is being used for all in-office point-of-sale transactions, including tax payments, vehicle and vessel registrations, titles, and driver’s license and ID services.

“For online tax payments,” the release continues, the upgrade also has introduced more digital options, including PayPal, “while continuing to offer no-fee eCheck payments.”

It further notes, “Early data points point to strong adoption of contactless payments and mobile wallets, alongside added convenience such as the ability to receive digital or printed receipts on demand.” Online Florida Department of Motor Vehicle services “are expected to transition to the new system later this year,” the release says.

During Tax Collector Moran’s presentation of his proposed 2026 fiscal year budget to the Sarasota County Commission, on July 1 2025, he discussed his plans for upgraded technology to improve his office’s services to the public.
