Detective Andrew Rowe of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized as the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI) 2025 MasterCard Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman announced this week.

The IAFCI is a nonprofit international organization that “brings together law enforcement, banking and retail personnel to combat financial fraud by providing a forum in which financial fraud, fraud investigation and fraud prevention methods” can be exchanged among members “for the betterment of the financial payment industry,” a news release explains.

Having won recognition earlier this year from the Florida Chapter of the IAFCI, the release says, Rowe was entered into the international competition, along with members representing more than 30 chapters from around the world.

Ultimately, a panel of industry leaders named Rowe the winner following a “blind vote.” During that process, the nominees’ names were removed from the panelists’ view, leaving only the merits of the nominees’ case work as the deciding factor.

The award was presented to Rowe on the morning of Aug. 26, during the IAFCI International Training Conference and Exhibitor Show held in Oklahoma City, the release notes.
