Interested in lovely landscaping that helps conserve natural resources?

On Sunday, May 6, the Sarasota County Extension Service is offering a self-guided driving tour of some of the area’s most successful Florida-friendly gardens, according to a Sarasota County news release. The Spring Garden Tour will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting at the Venice Beach pavilion, 101 The Esplanade, Venice.

The tour of five distinct landscapes will demonstrate ways to conserve water, lower maintenance, reduce pollution and waste, create wildlife habitat and improve quality of life, the news release says. Garden owners and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and help participants gather ideas for their own landscaping, the release adds.

The following stops are on the tour:

  • Venice Beach Front Oasis, 101 The Esplanade, Venice
  • Whimsical Refuge, 1306 Nokomis Ave., Venice
  • Island Serenity, 401 Baycrest Drive, Venice
  • Contemporary Kaleidoscope, 2127 Calusa Lakes Blvd., Nokomis
  • Wildlife Haven, 1454 Southbay Drive, Osprey

Registration is $10 on the day of the tour. Only checks, money orders or exact cash will be accepted, the news release points out. For more information, visit http://sarasota.ifas.ufl.edu or call 861-5000 and ask for the Extension Service.

The Spring Garden Tour is presented by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) and Sarasota County Extension. It is sponsored by a grant from the Manasota Basin Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
