The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has cited four local store clerks for selling an alcoholic beverage to a minor, the office has reported.

The citations came during a recent undercover operation conducted by the Juvenile Alcohol Task Force (JATF), in partnership with the Bureau of Law Enforcement within the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, the Sheriff’s Office has reported.

Task Force personnel visited 30 stores throughout Sarasota County on Wednesday, May 28, a news release explains. The businesses below were found to be in violation of the law that prohibits selling an alcoholic beverage to a person under 21, the release adds. “Clerks at all four locations were given a misdemeanor Notice to Appear citation.”

  • Marathon, located at 5300 Clark Road in Sarasota.
  • Shell, located at 1166 S. Tamiami Trail in Osprey.
  • Speedway, located at 1241 N. Tamiami Trail in Nokomis.
  • Wawa, located at 19289 Times Court in Venice.

The remaining 26 stores checked in Sarasota, Osprey, Nokomis and Venice were in compliance, the release noted. Each was to receive a letter commending its owners and employees for helping reduce the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, the release says.

The results of the operation were forwarded to the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, which licenses alcohol sales at each establishment, the release points out.
