Jono Miller and Julie Morris to be guest speakers

Given the extreme weather that residents are experiencing in Sarasota County, “responsible water resource management is more important than ever,” the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County points out.
On Friday, March 20, at Stoneybrook Country Club, the League will host a luncheon and conversation with conservationists and environmental activists Jono Miller and Julie Morris, the nonprofit has announced.
Miller and Morris have been researching, promoting initiatives “and working to protect the waters of Sarasota County for many years,” a news release notes. “They are well versed in Sarasota County’s water resource management and will share the efforts underway to preserve our most precious resource … water,” the release adds.
“During recent storm seasons, neighborhoods have flooded,” the release continues. “Now 67.4% of the state is experiencing extreme drought. That includes all of Sarasota County,” the release points out. “Our water supply is depleted,” it adds, with water usage restrictions in effect.

“And yet,” the release adds, “development continues at a rapid pace, creating even more demand for water and paving over the permeable soils needed to replenish our underground water supply.”
The public is invited to attend the luncheon.
Stoneybrook Country Club is located at 8801 Stoneybrook Blvd. in Sarasota. The luncheon has been scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the release says.
