County newsletter this week points interested persons to details of formal job description

Sarasota County Government is advertising for lifeguards to work on its beaches this summer, staff has announced.
“An average day as a Sarasota County Beach Lifeguard includes providing condition information to the public and helping keep our county beaches safe,” the county’s May 28 newsletter points out.
“Lifeguards complete incident and daily operational reports, rescue swimmers in distress, and administer first aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator use and oxygen according to medical protocols,” the newsletter adds. They also may “operate county-issued equipment, including radios, vehicles, boats and jet skis, while performing preventative maintenance duties,” it says.
The starting pay is $20.10 per hour, “with opportunities for growth and professional development, including EMT certification training,” the newsletter notes.
Beach hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, the county’s formal job advertisement says. “Lifeguards work 40 hours per week, with overtime and flexible shifts available,” it adds. The minimum age for applicants is 18, it stresses.
