Director of Development Services Department has been on city staff for 32 years
Tim Litchet, director of the City of Sarasota’s Development Services Department, will retire at the end of the year, following 32 years of service with the city, City Manager Tom Barwin has announced
“Tim has had a front-row seat for the tremendous amount of growth and change our city has seen over the decades,” Barwin wrote in his Sept. 13 newsletter. “His department is responsible for crucial services such as building, zoning and code compliance, and he and his staff have been busier than ever,” Barwin added.
“In my seven years working with him, Tim has been a bedrock of institutional knowledge, exhibiting perhaps one of the strongest work ethics I have witnessed as he worked to balance the many pressures his divisions faced during perhaps the greatest growth period in Sarasota’s history,” Barwin continued. As part his operational responsibilities, Litchet has focused on team building, Barwin noted.
Additionally, “[O]ver the years his integrity and sense of humor have been greatly appreciated by his colleagues,” Barwin wrote.
Litchet also is an attorney. The Florida Bar notes that he is a member in good standing, having been admitted to the Bar on May 24, 1984.
He is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law.
On Sept. 16, near the end of the regular City Commission meeting, Barwin also noted Litchet’s pending retirement. “We’re working on the process to replace him,” Barwin said, pointing to “a pretty major staff adjustment that we will be going through.”
