If accounts unpaid as of April 1, penalty imposed

Sarasota County property owners’ 2020 taxes are due by March 31, Sarasota County Tax Collector Barbara Ford-Coates is reminding the public.
Property taxes will become delinquent on April 1, a news release points out.
Because the Tax Collector’s offices are open by appointment, “The quickest and easiest way to pay is at www.SarasotaTaxCollector.com,” Ford-Coates noted in the release. After the online payment has been completed, she pointed out, “[A] receipt can be printed immediately.”
Online payments must be made by 11:59 pm (EDT) on Wednesday, March 31, the release emphasizes.
Other payment options are the following, the release says:
- Use of a 24-hour drop box at any Tax Collector’s Office location — downtown Sarasota on Adams Lane; Mid-County Tax Collector’s Office at 6100 Sawyer Loop Road; the Venice office at 4000 S. Tamiami Trail; andNorth Port City Hall, which stands at 4970 City Hall Blvd.
- By mail with a postmark of Wednesday, March 31; payments must be sent to 101 S. Washington Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34236-6993
“The penalty for missing the deadline is no small matter,” the release stresses. Not only are unpaid accounts delinquent as of April 1, with a penalty imposed, but on May 1, “[A]dditional fees are charged and accounts are advertised in a local newspaper,” the release adds. “If the taxes remain unpaid, the amount due will increase substantially on June 1st,” the release emphasizes.
