More than 200 bicycles donated to Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead’s Recycle-a-Bicycle Program

Bikes refurbished by members of nonprofit Turning Points and given to people in need

The nonprofit Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead has announced that it has collected more than 200 bicycles through its Recycle-A-Bicycle Program.

Donated bicycles are gathered up by Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead volunteers and then refurbished and restored by volunteers of the nonprofit Turning Points so the bikes can be given to people in need, a news release explains.

Turning Points “provides hope and assistance to men, women, and children who are at risk of being homeless or are homeless,” the release notes.

“The people of Sarasota County have supported our program in a most positive way,” said Chuck Butterfield, president of Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead, in the release.

“We’re thrilled with the enthusiastic response,” added Ralph Monti, director of Bicycle Programs for Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead, in the release. “Our bicycle donors are genuinely happy and pleased to see their used bicycles going to such a good cause.”

Any individual with a bicycle — or bicycle parts — that he or she wishes to donate to the program may contact Monti at 646-705-4148 or by email at ralphmonti@gmail.com to arrange a pick-up, the release points out.

Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead is a chapter of the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit registered in Florida, the release notes. Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead is a volunteer organization that supports, promotes, and enhances the Osprey Junction Trailhead, a Sarasota County Park adjacent to The Legacy Trail.
