Most City and County of Sarasota offices and facilities to be closed on July 4

Garbage and recycling collection to be pushed back a day in the city and unincorporated areas of the county

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, July 4, in observation of Independence Day.

Garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk waste collection will be collected one day later all of next week for both city and county residents, the local governments have announced.

Hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreational facilities will vary, a city news release says:

  • Bobby Jones Golf Club: Regular hours, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Children’s Fountain: closed.
  • Lido Pool: closed, as usual, on Mondays.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex: 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The regular City Commission meeting will be held one day later, on Tuesday, July 5, with sessions at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., the city release points out.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County also will be closed on Monday, July 4, a county news release says.

All Sarasota County libraries and recreation centers will be closed as well, the release continues, and Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will not operate on July 4.

Also closed will be the central county landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis and the Sarasota County chemical collection centers at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice. Additionally, the Citizens Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed on July 4.

Arlington Park will be open on July 4 from noon to 5 p.m., while the Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the county news release says.
