Members of the public are invited to join the Sarasota County Neighborhood Environmental Stewardship Team (NEST) as it presents the concept of a “living shoreline” at an open house on Saturday, March 11, the county has announced.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m., team members will discuss “environmentally friendly ways to reduce shoreline erosion, promote wildlife habitat and improve water quality in Alligator Creek, Lemon Bay and the lakes of Venice Gardens,” a news release explains.

The open house will be conducted at the Venice Gardens Community Association, located at 406 Shamrock Blvd. in Venice,

“Residents who live on or near a lake, pond or canal will find this event informative,” the release says. “The open house will help attendees conceptualize a design for a living shoreline and provide tips for lessening their impact on the watershed,” the release adds.
