Leaders of the City of Sarasota have announced that they will hold another free “Shred Stock” document-shredding event, this one planned for Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall parking lot.

The Van Wezel stands at 777 N. Tamiami Trail in downtown Sarasota.

“New to this spring’s Shred Stock event, by popular demand, is electronics recycling,” a news release points out. City residents who have unwanted electronics may have them “securely recycled,” the release continues. Those electronic devices can be placed in the trunks of participants’ vehicles, alongside their document boxes, the release notes.

“This free drive-up event, hosted by the Records and Information Management Division in the Office of the City Auditor and Clerk,” in partnership with The Bay Park, will follow two successful Shred Stock events in 2025, the release continues. More than 340 city residents attended those events last year, it adds.

“Destruction of sensitive, out-of-date documents is an important and easy step in protecting against identity theft and fraud by ensuring that personal information stays out of the wrong hands,” the release points out. “Any paper document or folder will be accepted for disposal at Shred Stock, regardless of staples or paper clips,” the release adds. Participants should place their boxes in the trunks of their vehicles, from which the city’s Records and Information Management staff will remove them and safely shred them on-site, the release says.

Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles, it points out. They will be able to “enjoy live entertainment while they wait for their turn, courtesy of the well-known, sustainability-focused local band The Garbage Men,” the release continues. The Garbage Men will be performing hits from the ’60s “on their signature homemade instruments,” the release notes.

In addition to live music, attendees will be able to “enjoy 15% off their next purchase at The Nest,” courtesy of The Bay Park, the release adds.

Shred Stock is available only to city of Sarasota residents, the release cautions the public. “Proof of City residency may be required.”
