On Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County (LWVSRQ), will hold a No Thrones, No Crowns, No Kings Rally in Payne Park in Sarasota, the organization has announced.

To register to participate in the event, go to this link, the nonprofit says.

On the registration page, the League chapter points out, “In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings. … On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world that America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people.”

The webpage adds, “Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger and stronger. ‘NO KINGS’ is more than just a slogan — it’s the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets, carried by millions in chants and on posters, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together.”

The webpage does stress, “A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.”

The gathering spot for participants on Oct. 18 will be near the Skate Park portion of Payne Park, a League chapter news release notes. “Look for purple balloons,” the release adds.
