Event to include details about Amendment 3 and Sarasota County referenda on Nov. 3 ballot, as well as details about voter ID requirements
South County voters in Sarasota County are invited to attend a free, nonpartisan election Information Fair on Sept. 19 at the Shannon Staub Library in North Port, the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County (LWVSRQ) has announced.
The event will be conducted between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., a news release notes. The library stands at 4675 Career Lane.
“People are more likely to vote when they have the information they need to make informed decisions,” Vilia Johnson, LWVSRQ co-president, said in the release. “Local elections are often downplayed,” she added, “but they play an outsized role in determining our quality of life and the future of our community.”
Leaders of the League are encouraging voters to “Be Informed!” and to use the hashtag “#BE Counted!”
The release further points out, “Whether you’re a first-time voter, recently moved, have questions about the ballot, or simply want to be prepared for Election Day, this event will provide the information you need to vote with confidence.”
The Information Fair will feature the following, the release continues:
- Brief talks on what every voter needs to know before Election Day, including the Sarasota County and proposed State of Florida ballot amendments, including the property tax question in Amendment 3.
- One-on-one voter registration assistance.
- Guidance on how to create a personalized sample ballot through the League’s online voter guide: VOTE411.org.
- A review voter ID requirements.
- Presentation of easy-to-understand information on ballot amendments.
- Free raffle drawings.
Registration for the event is not required, the release points out. “Come when you can,” it says, and “stay as long as you like. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors.”
