One person suffers non-life-threatening injuries after July 16 shooting on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Sarasota’s Newtown neighborhood

Sarasota Police Department seeking witnesses and any other persons with information about incident

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, in the 1900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Sarasota, the agency has announced.

“One victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” a news release says. The victim’s name is being withheld in accord with the provisions of the state’s Marsy’s Law, the release adds.

“Detectives are hoping to speak with any witnesses or anyone with information on this case,” the release continues. “This is all the information that can be released at this time,” the release points out.

No further information was released prior to the deadline for publication of this issue of The Sarasota News Leader.

“The public is not believed to be in any danger,” the department says.

The 1900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way is west of North Washington Blvd. (U.S. 301), situated between Gillespie Avenue and Dixie Avenue, a map shows.
