Midnight Pass in the 1970s

  1. I lived on Casey key during the 60’s and 70’s. Spent a lot of time at midnight pass. Surfing, fishing, getting clams on the mud flats on the bay, camping out near the Indian burial grounds. It was a wonderful place to go with friends and family. The water was so blue in the pass. Mote Marine started on the south end of Siesta Key. I snuck in several times from the bayside and walked out on the shark plank. Saw plenty of reef sharks in the pass. Caught lots of mangrove snapper and snook in the pass. Florida lost one of its treasures due to greed and powerful influence.

    • I didn’t live on Casey key, but I frequented the mud flats near the bay. We camped near the Indian mounds, a big one of which was near the tip of the Southern-most peninsula in the above photo.
