LGBTQ+ advocacy organization to stand with victims and families of Pulse Nightclub massacre in wake of Pride visibility erasure

In the wake of the erasure of the Pulse Nightclub memorial crosswalk in Orlando, as well as the Pride crosswalk in downtown Sarasota, Project Pride SRQ will present Compassion at the Crosswalk on Oct. 4, the nonprofit advocacy organization has announced.
This event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Second Street, Coconut Avenue and North Pineapple Avenue — the former location of Sarasota’s Pride crosswalk, a news release says.
“The brief program will feature several speakers, including Project Pride SRQ Executive Director Tom Edwards, Harvest Sarasota/Harvest House President and CEO Dan Minor, and Rabbi Jennifer Singer, the release adds. As of early this week, it notes, further program details still were being confirmed.
“When our Pride crosswalk was painted over, it was more than paint that was erased; it was an attempt to silence visibility, pride and belonging,” said Edwards in the release. “Sadly, the erasure of the Pulse memorial crosswalk has reopened wounds for the families who lost loved ones in the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub. We know the pain of being targeted, and we stand in solidarity with all who carry grief and trauma,” he added.
The Oct. 4 event will be free, the release points out. While registration is not required, guests will be welcome to sign up through event portals on Project Pride SRQ’s website and Facebook page, the release adds. For more about Project Pride SRQ, visit ppsrq.org.
