The Road to Independence Foundation, a 501(c)(3) volunteer- based program, will hold its inaugural fundraising event on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fox Lea Farms, the organization’s board of directors has announced.

Nancy Detert of Venice is president of the nonprofit, a news release says.

Fox Lea Farms is located at 800 Auburn Road in Venice, the release adds.

The event will feature live music, a celebrity “Ride & Drive” race, a Grand Prix horse jumping competition and live and silent auctions, the release notes.

When she served in the Florida Legislature as a senator and representative, Detert “sponsored and passed legislation that focused on bettering the lives of people in foster care,” the release explains. “These various pieces of legislation covered topics such as reducing the barriers that people in foster care face when they apply to receive a driver’s license,” the release says.

Her legislative work also benefitted college-bound foster care youth, promoted positive school experiences, reduced incidence of sibling separation and extended foster care benefits for recipients up to age 21, the release points out.

“Proceeds of this event will help young people as they transition from foster care to the real world” by providing them resources they need to achieve success, the release adds.
