Garbage and recycling collections will not be affected

Sarasota County and City of Sarasota government offices and recreation facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, their staffs have announced.
City customers and those in the unincorporated areas of Sarasota County will see no change in the normal curbside collection services for garbage, recycling and yard waste, news releases point out.
The following county facilities will be closed on Nov. 11:
- All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources offices and facilities.
- Sarasota County Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
- All Sarasota County recreationfacilities, including the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range in Nokomis and the Englewood Sports Complex.
- All solid waste administrative offices, including the Central County Landfill Administration Office, the Solid Waste Administrative Office, the Chemical Collection Center and the Re-Uz-It Shop. The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center remains closed because of damage from Hurricane Ian.
- The Sarasota County University of Florida/Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Sustainability office at Twin Lakes Park.
- The Florida Department of Health-Sarasota.
- The Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s offices.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Tax Collector.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller. Services may be accessed online at www.SarasotaClerk.com.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.
In addition to the Veterans Day closures, Sarasota County Utilities Customer Service Operations will be closed to the public from 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, through Tuesday, Nov. 11, “to ensure a successful and secure system transition to a new customer information system and customer self-service portal,” the county news release explains. “During this time, no payments will be processed (online, in person, or by mail). To make a payment ahead of the closure, visit scgov.net/BillPay,” the county release continues. “Limited staff will be available to assist with utility emergencies (line breaks, leaks, sewer backups) and to help customers starting new service on Friday, Nov. 7, or Monday, Nov. 10.”
Open and operating on Veterans Day
- Disposal operations at the Central County Landfill, which stands at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Citizens’ Convenience Center, which is located at 4010 Knights Trail Road Nokomis, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes before the closing time.
- Breeze Transit services (standard and touring routes, Breeze OnDemand, and Breeze Plus) will operate with regular hours.
In the city of Sarasota, the Bay Runner trolley will maintain its regular hours, which are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the city news release says. However, its route “will be modified from 8 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. to accommodate the Veterans Day parade on Main Street.”
Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows, the release adds:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34thSt., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
