The Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been named one of the nation’s best nursing homes, “recognized for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care in U.S. News’ annual Best Nursing Homes ratings released this week,” the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) has announced.

“Since 2009, U.S. News has recognized the best nursing homes (also called skilled nursing facilities) to help prospective residents and their families make informed decisions about where to receive nursing home care,” a news release explains. The 2026 list recognizes the top 1,200 nursing homes of the approximately 15,000 evaluated across the nation, the release points out.

Compared to the national average, U.S. News reported that its list of top-performing facilities, on average, provide the following:

  • 20% more total staffing per resident per day.
  • 80% more physical therapy per resident per day.
  • 15% lower rate of hospitalizations for long-term residents.
  • 33% lower rate of emergency room visits.

“SMH’s skilled nursing facility received the highest rankings for both ‘Short-Term Rehabilitation’ and ‘Long-Term Care,’ the release notes. “Located at 5640 Rand Blvd., Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center offers skilled nursing and rehabilitation for people recovering from surgery, injury or illness,” the release continues. “Its multi-disciplinary team cares for approximately 100 residents around the clock, 365 days a year,” the release points out.

“Sarasota Memorial is honored to once again be recognized among the nation’s best nursing homes,” said Maria DeCarlo, vice president of Sarasota Memorial Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Services, in the release. “Our clinicians and staff work hard to create the most comfortable and healing environment possible for our residents and their families, and this recognition reflects the care and compassion they bring to their work every day,” DeCarlo added in the release.

“This is the fourth year in a row that the Sarasota Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has been nationally recognized by U.S. News,” the release notes. “The skilled nursing facility also has been repeatedly ranked among the nation’s best nursing homes by Newsweek and awarded 5-star quality ratings from the federal Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services,” the release adds.
