Sarasota Police Department investigating alleged armed robbery in Newtown, near Booker High

Agency asking anyone with information to contact Criminal Investigations Division

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred at a home in the 1600 block of 36th Street in Sarasota shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, the agency has announced.

“At least one shot was fired,” a Police Department news release says, “but no one was struck or injured.”

The release also points out, “This remains an active and ongoing investigation.”

The location of the alleged incident is just south of Myrtle Street in the Newtown community, a map shows. The site also is just north of Booker High School, which stands on North Orange Avenue.

No further information was available prior to the deadline for this issue of The Sarasota News Leader.
