Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Sgt. Tara Shea graduated on Aug. 8 as a member of Class 60 of the Florida Leadership Academy, hosted by the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman has announced.

Shea and other first-line supervisors attended four, week-long sessions during which “the Florida Leadership Academy prepared them for future challenges and taught them the skills necessary to support the needs of their local agencies and communities,” a news release explains. “Developing the character and integrity required for criminal justice professionals is the focus of this exceptional training and is built around the qualities of efficient and effective leaders,” the release continues.

Criminal justice agencies from all over the state were represented in Class 60, the release notes.

“Preparing supervisors to serve and lead in their communities is the goal of the Florida Leadership Academy,“ said Hoffman in the release. “Supervisors in all areas of our agency must be effective and decisive leaders. This is where training makes a difference.”
