Sarasota County Utilities Department crews are working to repair a 12-inch transmission watermain break that has closed a portion of Beneva Road south of Markridge Road in Sarasota, the county has announced.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office closed the southbound traffic lanes on Beneva from Markridge Road to Beneva Oaks Road, a county news release says. Northbound Beneva Road has been converted to two, one-way lanes to accommodate southbound traffic, the news release notes.

This road closure will continue through most of the day today while repairs are made to the watermain and to the road, according to county staff.

As of late morning, utilities crew had not determined whetber water service had been interrupted or if a precautionary boil water notice would be issued, the county news release says.
