Sarasota Police Department detectives have charged 41-year-old Djalma Johan Gordon of Sarasota in connection with the Feb. 4 death of a woman who lived in the 2200 block of Ringling Boulevard, in downtown Sarasota, the agency announced on Feb. 5.

An officer with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana stopped Gordon on westbound Interstate 10 just before 1 a.m. Central Standard Time on Feb. 5, the Sheriff’s Office reported on its Facebook page.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Feb. 4, Sarasota Police Department Patrol Division officers went to a residence in the 2200 block of Ringling Boulevard to conduct a welfare check on the person living there, a Police Department news release explained. “After making entry into the home, the officers found the resident, an adult female, deceased,” the release added.

A determination was made “that the woman had been the victim of homicidal violence,” the release noted. “As a result of the investigation,” the release said, Gordon was identified as a “person of interest.”

The 2200 block of Ringling Boulevard is home to the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota), as that agency’s website notes. The Lyra, described on its website as offering luxury apartments in Sarasota, stands at 2260 Ringling Blvd., a map shows.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center record for Gordon, which The Sarasota News Leader obtained midafternoon on Feb. 5, said that Gordon was booked into that facility at 4:01 a.m. that day, CST.

No other details about the case were available prior to the deadline for the publication of this issue of the News Leader.
